History and Ideas

When I was designing new Tuxedo and Wedding Dress Hearts, I came across a teeshirt with a Christmas Tuxedo printed on the front and it gave me the idea for making Christmas Tuxedo and Dress Hearts as Christmas Ornaments.

Wouldn't they be perfect for a Bride and Groom's first Christmas together. With Extra canvas, you could make a personalized back for each heart.

They could also be stitched together as a small sampler (in much the same way they are pictured above) with lettering and a border. It would not be difficult to do.

They could also be stitched as the front and back of a single heart as the heart outline is the same for both hearts.

Description

I stitched both hearts on white congress cloth with Soie d'Alger, floss and pearl cotton; mostly with Soie d'Alger: green and red and a gray for some slight shadows. The floss is one of my favorites for flesh color, the pearl cotton for some of the outlines. Scroll down for photos of the threads. The hearts have virtually the same colors and threads, with a couple of small differences.

Each Heart is approximately 4.5" wide x 4.5" tall on an 8" x 8" square of congress cloth.

The stitches are typical variations of needlepoint composites and each has a few Bullion Knots. Neither heart is difficult to make and I suspect the average stitcher who reads charts with some degree of facility can finish each heart in a series of evenings in front of the television set.

Each kit includes the instructions and a color copy of my completed heart, plus the congress cloth, silk, floss and pearl cotton necessary to stitch the design. The instructions for the Christmas Dress Heart are 17 pages long plus a title page and a color copy.

The instructions for the Christmas Tuxedo Heart are 19 pages long plus a title page and a color copy.

The instructions do not include finishing directions for the simple reason that I send my hearts to a professional finisher. The finishers I use are listed on my website.
