American Silver Thimbles Sampler and the  Thimbles

THE SAMPLER BANDS

My sampler is a band sampler, with each band adapted from the band of an American thimble. Above are two photos of the Simons thimble from which I adapted the band with the house.

And the good news is, Carolyn has many of the thimbles.

How My American Silver Thimbles Sampler Influenced My Collecting.

For most of my collecting life I looked for the commemorative thimbles, two favorites in this category, the Salem Witch Thimbles. As I stitched my Sampler I became more interested in the tiny miniature designs.

A relatively recent find that has become one of my favorites is the thimble above. I love the abstract Rose and Bow-like Leaves on the ornate gold band. Made by Stern, the thimble has an interesting design history.

As I adapted the designs from thimble bands for my American Silver Thimbles Sampler, I began paying more attention to the tiny designs on thimble bands, such as the little landscape on the Simons thimble below.

I began looking at these tiny designs with fresh eyes and soon I was trolling for interesting thimble designs.

Why Collect Thimbles? I actually have a good answer
